If you are going to be the President of the Chamber of Commerce, then it might be of use to have the tall gentleman that hates snakes show you how to operate a camera.........
or get off your wallet and get a cell phone that has a camera rather than the bag phone you must be using.......

Did it happen again today???? I'm living vicariously through your posts since I haven't been duck hunting one day this year. Football recruits must hate me, since they always plan stuff on weekends.

I got invited to hunt yesterday evening at one of those St. Charles bottoms clubs right off of 370. I've hunted ducks across the central part of the U.S. at some of the best duck hunting destinations in the flyway........there is no way I'm going to say that yesterday was the most ducks I'd ever seen on a single hunt......but HOLY CHIT!!! It might have been the most ducks I've ever seen on a hunt. For 3 hours, no matter where I looked in a 360 degree circle, there were ducks.....hundreds and thousands of ducks. Flocks of pintails with 100-300 birds, HUGE flocks of mallards, teal, gadwall, etc. It was an amazing sight. I've heard stories of what those bottoms were like in the 50's and 60's......I think I got a picture of it yesterday.
I hope I'm wrong for the sake of most of you......but I'd be willing to bet on a short season based on what I saw, the numbers already being reported in the south, and the forecast lows for the next 10 days. The field was freezing as we hunted.
I'm glad I got a day in a duck blind this year (actually a few days thanks to foots and the merganser piss hole he calls home  )......it was something to see.

I am headed out to field hunt in NWMO in the morning. I think the fat lady is warming up. I had a buddy from St. Joe put 200 miles on his truck scouting tonight and everything that isn't frozen will be by tomorrow. Even big water is freezing up. Supposed to get 1 to 3 inches of snow tomorrow. I was supposed to go with the eldest son on Sunday too. I saw the forecasted wind chill of ZERO at shooting time and knowing that most of the ducks have vamoosed and told him I'm thinking I'll sleep in. I guess I just don't hate 'em as much as I used to...

You know you have some of the only open water when you look up and have 500+ mallards from 30 to 100 yards tornado'ing in on you and not one wing is moving...they are all cupped.
It has been a week to remember, without a doubt. You might be right, it could be a short season Scott. There have been a ton of birds come through but next week will be back in the upper 40s with mid 30s for the lows. As long as the snow doesnt get too deep i bet mallards stick around. Time will tell.

It's not over by a long shot. It will warm back up. The ice will go away. Blew hole at home had no ice on it this am. If it is over in MO.........good. I don't olan on Hunting there. I imagine its good Hunting all over right now I've and cold is about 30 days early. River hasn't started freezing up north and there the snow cover isn't too deep yet. The Fat lady only got up to fix a Sammich.

Saw 6 trumpeter swans this morning in the booneville bottoms from the truck. Typically don't see them until January. They be real early

Saw around 250+ near West Alton-- funny year-- usually see a family group or two around Halloween and they build up through Thanksgiving and first half of December
This year there were zero on Halloween and only 9 a week ago--- then 60 showed up Wednesday and now they are getting thick-- geese are thick and fair number of mallards
Even the Millionaire's Boy Club were shooting as well as the poor souls at Columbia Bottoms--
only difference really is the Millionaire's Boys Club paid not hear the green card speech

Well we had one of those days that I'll remember all winter. 24 ducks by 8 AM. If there weren't laws and limits it would have been easy to kill a hundred. They were still pouring into the corn as we left. Gonna try to be there to greet them again in the morning.

Back to back memory making hunting days. We worked to get them but man what a show! Taking off tomorrow and hoping to do it again on Tuesday.
